Case Facts: Rose was 30 years old when she had a Pomeroy tubal ligation in 1998. The doctor removed 1.8 cm from one tube and 2.0 from the other tube. She had a tubal reversal by Dr. Levin on 7/2/2001 with a total of 6 cm of repaired tube on each side. After nearly a decade of marriage and three beautiful children, I made the choice to have my tubes tied. Honestly, the decision was hard to make, but I felt as though my life was blessed, I wasn't getting any younger, and that financially it made sense to go through with the surgery. So, after giving birth to my third child, I proceeded with the tubal ligation.

Then, on August 8, 2000, the unthinkable happened. My third child and seemingly healthy son, Ben, died suddenly from an undiagnosed metabolic disorder at age 2 . Adding to the loss, I learned shortly after Ben's death that his silent, but treatable, disorder could have been detected with a $25 newborn screening test that was not made available by our state. Needless to say, my husband and I were devastated, and our family was never to be the same.

The following Spring, I started surfing the internet for information about reversals of tubal ligations. That is when I found Dr. Levin. His website was very informative and easy to navigate. I followed the directions from the website and requested records from my local doctor about my tubal ligation and learned that I had received the Pomeroy method. I sent this paperwork to Dr. Levin along with the personal data sheets that I downloaded and completed. Then, I set up the telephone consultation. Dr. Levin looked over the documents I had sent while we were on the phone and patiently answered all my questions. He indicated that I had about an 80% success rate for the reversal. So, I scheduled an appointment for the reversal.

On July 2, 2001, I met Dr. Levin, and he did my surgery. I can't say enough good things about the facilities and the personnel at the hospital. The Jewish Hospital was organized and efficient as I did very little waiting the morning of the surgery. The nurses, the anesthesiologist, and Dr. Levin were all extremely nice and seemed as genuinely excited as I was. Later that morning when the surgery was completed, I returned to the Jewish Inn as part of my outpatient plan. The Jewish Inn was nice, quiet, and clean. There was also a nurse on staff in case I needed assistance. I stayed there until it was time for me to return to Dr. Levin three days later and remove my staples. Here, Dr. Levin explained that he was able to reconnect my tubes and that each tube measured about 6 cm. So, all I needed to do was to go home and get pregnant!

Just three months later, I did get pregnant! I had a very good and uneventful pregnancy. On June 18, 2002, I delivered a healthy 9 lb. 14 oz. son. This new child has brought so much happiness and hope to my family. I would definitely recommend Dr. Levin to anyone who wants to reverse a tubal ligation. Dr. Levin took the time to explain everything. Plus, he was readily available to promptly answer questions and give encouragement by phone or e-mail. Thank you Dr. Levin for your wonderful skills as a surgeon, the knowledge and technology that you shared with us, and your empathy and compassion that allowed you to help us add to our family.

Sincerely,
Rose and Harry Goodman and family
Vicksburg, Mississippi
