Case Facts: In July 1998 Cheryl had a bilateral Falope Ring tubal ligation performed. Fifteen years later on April 1, 2013 Dr. Richard Levin performed a bilateral microsurgical tubal ligation reversal on Cheryl with tube lengths of 6.0 cm on one side and 6.0 cm on the other side. The rings had caused her tubes to scar to the pelvic sidewall making for a very difficult dissection but clearly things worked out great.

Please enjoy Cheryl and Louis' story in Cheryl's own words . . .

I got my tubes tied about two weeks after the birth of my son (my second child) in 1998 at the urging of my then husband. I was only 23 years old. At the time, I didn't think too much of it. I had one girl and one boy - a perfect set. By the time my son was a year old, my marriage was ending. It was difficult being a single mom at such a young age and having to date again. Most of the men that I would meet didn't have children yet and weren't too crazy about dating someone with two of them. About three years after my divorce, I met Louis. He had never been married and had no children. Once I realized that things were getting serious, I told him that my tubes were tied and I could not have more children. He didn't seem bothered by that and he accepted the role of 'step-father' willingly and lovingly.

About three years into our relationship, I discovered that it was a possibility to reverse a tubal ligation. I started reading everything I could about the procedure and began researching doctors. A year later Louis and I got married and bought a home. The expense of starting our life together made it difficult to save for the procedure. For the next eight years we longed to have a child together. There were times when both of us decided maybe we didn't want to start over, but something inside kept us coming back to the idea. The timing was never quite right. It wasn't until my daughter was 18 years old and my son was 15 years old that we decided it was time. I was terrified about the possibility of starting over, but I knew the one thing missing in our life was having a child of our own together. Louis was an only child, so the thought of giving his mother a grandchild and carrying on the family name was exciting. But, I also knew that I was getting older and that even though my chances were still good, there could also be a possibility that I couldn't get pregnant. After 12 years of research I knew that if anyone could give me the chance to be a mom again, it would be Dr. Levin.

In late March 2013, we left New Orleans and headed for Louisville. We made stops along the way and made a whole week out of it. It was a great opportunity to bond with my husband on a fun road trip. On April 1, 2013 I had the procedure.

Dr. Levin told us to wait six weeks before trying to conceive. After about two weeks I felt better so although we were not planning on making it a 'trying to conceive' opportunity, that didn't stop mother nature. I got pregnant on our first intimate moment. When I got a positive pregnancy test, I can't even explain my excitement. After not having a baby for 15 years, it was so surreal being pregnant. After testing and ultrasounds, we knew the baby was viable and healthy. Although I enjoyed being pregnant, toward the end it got very difficult. My body was not the same as it was in my young twenties and carrying a baby was rough.

Four days before Christmas on December 21, 2013, Audrey Kate Caruso graced us with her beautiful face. I had a natural vaginal delivery assisted by a midwife in a hospital. It was an unbelievable experience. Audrey weighed 7#, 4oz and looked exactly like her daddy. We have been on cloud nine ever since. She is so loved by her big brother and sister and her extended family. Being a mom again is truly a gift, but seeing my husband being a father - there are no words to describe that. It's truly the most beautiful act of love I have ever seen. And I never could have guessed we would have experienced it. After all that time, I never knew if we would actually ever have a child together. I always hoped...

Thank you, Dr. Levin, for doing what you do. You are truly changing people's lives and helping to bring beautiful children into this world and into the hearts of their families.
