Our story is a little different than most. We met and fell in love in high school, and immediately upon graduation, we were married. Soon after, we welcomed our first daughter. I was a fulltime college student and he was working full time to support our growing family. Two years later, our first son was born, and two years after that…..you guessed it…..another arrival: son #2! We had 3 beautiful children in a span of less than five years and we decided we were done, our family was complete! So, at the age of 22, I had a tubal ligation.
Soon after, I heard about gestational surrogacy (carrying a baby for a woman who was physically unable to) and was very interested. I was young, had easy pregnancies, and had a heart for women suffering from infertility. So, over the next 3 years, I devoted my time (and my womb!) to helping 2 different couples achieve parenthood. I carried and gave birth to a little boy for a loving family, and two years later had triplet girls for another awesome family. How fulfilling! However during this time, I felt myself catching the baby fever. I pushed that feeling to the back of my head and heart, thinking it was just my hormones talking, since I had just delivered triplets! Of course, that aching for another baby of our own did not go away, and I began to research tubal reversal surgery. I found Dr. Levin’s website and was so excited that this was actually an option for me! I finally let my husband in on my feelings, I was nervous to hear his response. But, much to my surprise, he felt the same way and told me to schedule the surgery!
On July 1st, 2010 (our 10th wedding anniversary!) I had my reversal. I woke up from surgery pleased to find out that my tubes had been repaired, and they were great lengths: 9 and 9.5 cms! Our stay in Louisville was enjoyable (we joked that it was the honeymoon that we never got), we even had a special cake delivered to our hotel room to celebrate our anniversary, that we shared with Dr. Levin and Venica when they came to check on me. We returned home and began trying to conceive six weeks later.
Shortly before Thanksgiving, we found out I was pregnant. Unfortunately, I had an early miscarriage. The same thing happened again in the spring. I had thought it would be easier to let my local ob/gyn monitor my labs, instead of Dr Levin himself. I thought that my progesterone levels were being monitored but come to find out, they weren’t. I contacted Dr Levin to see what I should do and lets just say he wasn’t thrilled that I didn’t have him monitoring those 2 early pregnancies (sorry Dr Levin!) Next time it would be different! On May 4th, 2011, we found out we were pregnant again. I immediately contacted Dr Levin and had my labs drawn, to find out that my progesterone was a bit low. He started me on progesterone supplements and had me go for labs every week to keep an eye on things. Let me just say that Dr Levin goes above and beyond for his patients! I just knew that this time, it would work out.
The rest of the pregnancy was uneventful and healthy. On January 11th, 2012 at 4:43pm, I gave birth to the most beautiful baby girl, Jamie Caroline. She weighed 7lbs 10oz and was 20.5in long. We are so in love with her! Our older kids just love holding her and helping with feeding and changing.
To Dr Levin, we cannot thank you enough for the great care and for sharing your gift with us, so that we could truly “complete” our family!
