Case Facts: On 5/25/2000, Shannon had a postpartum tubal ligation with the Pomeroy method performed removing 1.7 cm from each of her tubes. On 5/12/2008, Dr. Richard Levin performed a bilateral microsurgical tubal ligation reversal on Shannon. During the procedure, Dr. Levin found an endometrioma (large collection of endometriosis within the ovary) of her right ovary and other scattered implants of endometriosis all of which he surgically removed. Shannon's tube lengths ended up as 7.0 cm on the right and 4.0 cm on the left when Dr. Levin completed her tubal reversal.

Troy and Shannon Johnson's Story: When Troy and I met, I had 3 children from a previous marriage. After baby #3, I decided to have a tubal ligation and never even gave it much thought. Troy didn’t have any children. Life went on and we were happy, but there was something missing. We were busy with the 3 kids we had, but really wanted to have a baby of our own. So, I started to research having a tubal reversal online. Then I came across the babies-by-levin website. I knew I had found the right Dr.

About 4 years came to pass, and we finally were able to have the procedure done! So we flew to Kentucky in May of 2008. Dr Levin and his staff were great. Surgery went well, but Dr. Levin found a cyst on my right ovary that was the same size as my ovary. He removed it and also had burned some endometriosis off my ovaries. The removed tissue was sent off to the lab for analysis. I will never forget when I woke up from surgery. Troy had talked to the Dr. and told me the bad news. My hope kind of just went out the window at that point. Troy was still excited just to have a "chance" that we could have a baby! The next day when Dr. Levin came to discharge us, he explained what he found and said that the reversal went well, there was plenty of tube left on both sides. But based on what he thought could be an Endometrioma. This could cut down our chances by more than half. He said we had about a 25% percent chance of conception because of the cyst.

So, we went home and kept our hopes up high for quite awhile. I went to a couple specialists. One prescribed some Clomid, which I took for 2 cycles, but decided I would just wait and see if it would happen on our own. I charted my temperature for a while. Then we waited for a while and I decided maybe we better check a couple other things. We had a post-coital test, which was good. So a little over a year after surgery, we had tried everything we could to make it happen. I finally gave up and decided that it was out of our control.

Then December of 2009, my period was late, so I decided to take a test. I had been feeling a little different but figured it was just stress or something. I couldn’t believe it when I saw a positive result FINALLY!! Praise the Lord! I waited for Troy to get home to share the news. He was so surprised. After having blood work done and an ultrasound, we were convinced this was really happening, we were going to really have a baby!! It was a little scary at first because my progesterone level was low, so Dr. Levin put me on some medicine for my first 12 weeks. Every thing else during the pregnancy went well. We are so grateful to Dr. Levin for making it all possible.

We welcomed our little boy on August 13th 2010, Cody Ray Johnson weighed 7lbs, 8 oz and measured 21 3/4 inches long. He is such a blessing!! Thank you to Dr. Levin and his staff.

Many Blessings to All of You,
Troy, Shannon, and Cody Ray Johnson
