Like many women, I had my tubal ligation because I was young and already had three children and a horrible marriage. This was in 1996. I regretted having that done several years later when the urge to have more children hit me hard. I eventually divorced and remarried my soul mate in 2005. My husband loves my children like they are his, but has no children of his own. We discussed having children and looking into ways to make that happen. I found several doctors in 2005 that did tubal reversals and I bookmarked them. At this time the cost was close to $10,000 for most, including one in our state. We did not have this kind of money so we just talked about the day we would be able to pursue our dream.
Then in 2007 I started researching again. During the summer, I ordered my TL notes and had those ready. In August I came across Dr. Levin’s site and Yahoo! Group and joined the group. I met some wonderful ladies and read their words of sorrow and triumph. I observed for a month or so before I introduced myself. I then sent my notes to the Dr. to review and was told I would be a good candidate. During this time I had called other doctors and was turned down because my TL was done over 10 years ago and no one wanted to do the reversal or if they did, it was going to cost a lot more than what Dr. Levin was charging.
Funds miraculously became available to have the procedure done and we called Dr. Levin’s office in November to schedule and we had a date for two weeks later. The following day we purchased airline tickets and now we had our date and everything seemed so surreal.
On December 5th I had my tubal reversal first thing in the morning; I had great lengths and no problems. We followed up with Dr. Levin and Valencia the following day and then left to come home. I had a six week wait before we could try to conceive.
In January my six week wait was over and my husband and I began our TTC journey. I had already started taking prenatal vitamins 2 weeks after the TR and my husband and I changed our diet to a healthier one. The wait to test was agonizing. I told my husband a few weeks later I was feeling different and wanted to test. We bought the digital HPT’s and there were three in the box. On February 11th I took the first test and it read an error so I used a second one and it read “Not Pregnant” and I was devastated. I was so positive I was pregnant and I became immediately depressed. My husband was comforting and encouraging and assured me that next time would be our time. On the morning of the 13th I was getting ready to head out to do some shopping and I decided to use the last HPT so I could by another box for next month. So, I used the test and set it on the dresser while I finished getting ready. When I went to grab my purse to leave, I looked down and it read “PREGNANT”…
I was feeling everything all at once. My husband was not here so I took a picture of the test and sent it to his cell phone. A few minutes later he called back and there we both were, emotional and happy. I called my OB and they got me in a few hours later to confirm my pregnancy and they followed up with lab tests. Yes indeed, I was pregnant!
I notified Dr. Levin and his staff of our pregnancy and they have been nothing short of kind and encouraging. Dr. Levin followed my pregnancy and made sure that the life growing inside me would make it to the end.
We are happy to say that on October 10th, Lukas Kollin joined our family! He is such a joy and a miracle and we all just love him beyond what any words could ever describe. If it was not for Dr. Levin, we would not have our precious boy.
Whenever anyone asks about my tubal reversal I always speak fondly of Dr. Levin and have recommended him to several people, including several doctors and my midwife has even recommended him to some of her other patients.
As for having more children, we would love to have another child and will try again after sometime.
Dr. Levin, thank you very much for everything you have given my family!
Kristie and Lucas Hasselstrom.
