I had a tubal ligation towards the end of my first marriage in 1998. I was 23 years old.
Like so many other stories, I was in an abusive marriage with two young sons and could not see myself being able to leave him. Six months before the tubal ligation I became life threatening ill with Toxic Shock Syndrome. Three months after T.S.S. I decided to leave the unhealthy marriage only to find out I was already pregnant. This pregnancy ended in miscarriage which resulted in my hemorraging which led to a snap decision to tie my tubes. Actually, they were clamped. This happended in 1998.
I met my present husband shortly after my divorce. Kyle knew that I could not have any more children, but still chose a life with me :)
I began searching the internet in 1999 to find out if a reversal was possible. Dr. Levin was the first doctor I found and we both had a good feeling about him, however, we were in the midst of a lengthy child custody battle that was consuming our finances.
We kept Dr. Levin in mind and compared him to a few other reversal doctors. Dr. Levin remained the one and in 2004 we were able to get on the payment plan. We finished paying and scheduled my reversal for April 2005.
We drove from New Orleans, Louisiana to Louisville, Kentucky to meet Dr. Levin and his staff. They could not have done a better job and I could not have been more impressed. I was afraid of surgery, but everyone put me at ease and actually had me laughing right before being wheeled into the operating room.
The surgery went very well and I ended up with pretty long tubes. I dont remember the exact lengths right now. Dr. Levin and his assistant came to the hotel the next morning to check on me, which was nice.
A day or two after the surgery we were on the road back home. I could not believe how easy the car drive back home was! Dr. Levin prescribed some pain meds and I took those as prescribed, I sat on one pillow and held another pillow on my lap. My husband also stopped every hour or two so that I could walk a bit. Walking helps keep down the swelling and helps healing.
I became pregnant three months after my reversal, but it ended in miscarriage. Dr. levin ordered blood work for me that showed I had low progesterone levels. He prescribed progesterone vaginal suppositories after ovulation. Dr. Levin explained in depth when and why I was to take the progesterone.
About six months later I was pregnant again and again I miscarried. We were heartbroken and becoming discouraged, but Dr. Levin assured us that everything was fine.
In August 2006 we were pregnant again and immediately began contacting Dr. Levin about my hcg and progesterone levels. This time, finally, he kept responding with good news. We were thrilled! The emotional ups and downs were all worth it when on April 12, 2007 at 11:21 a.m. I gave birth to a sweet, healthy, beautiful baby girl. Maura Glynn Waters weighed in at 7lbs, 7oz and 20 inches long.
We just celebrated Maura's first birthday and are having the time of our lives with her. She has added so much joy. She is a happy baby with two doting big brothers.
I think of Dr. Levin and his staff often. I am so thankful for their honesty and expertise. I've never seen someone as busy as he who responds so quickly to an email or phone message. I still wonder if he has a twin :)
I should also mention that on the day before Maura's first birthday we found out that we are expecting again! We are thrilled and thankful for Dr. Levin all over again.
