This is the story of the journey that Shannon and Lane Azure took to get their miracle baby, Noah Lane.
This story may be one that unfortunately many of you can relate to. I hope though that by reading it you will find that there is hope out there for you.
I had been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters, but unfortunately I had not been so blessed with a good marraige. When I found out I was pregnant with my third daughter, (whom I love with all my heart) I was extremely upset because I was finally going to leave my husband. I knew I had to stick it out with my marraige until the baby was born and even then I was not sure I would ever get up enough strength to leave him so I decided I should have my tubes tied. I did not want to bring any more children into our loveless marraige so it seemed like the right thing to do. I have my babies by C-section so it was planned to be done when my daughter was born. Kaidyn was born on Dec 19, 2003 and that was the day my tubal was performed. I remember them asking me If I was sure I wanted to go ahead with the tubal ligation and even though I said yes I had this awful feeling that I was making a mistake. When I woke up I felt broken, sad, and the fact that the choice was no longer mine and I could not have any more children made me very depressed. It turned out that having Kaidyn was the best thing that could have ever happened because looking into her beautiful baby eyes when she was born convinced me that my daughters and myself deserved to be happy and live in a happy home. When she was 5 weeks old I left my husband and started out in a new direction with our lives.
A few weeks after that I talked to a man that I was engaged to in college about 12 years previous. He was that one man that I knew truly loved me and I often wondered what my life would have been like if we would have gotten married way back then. Unfortunately due to my age and some other obstacles that got in our way we broke up and went our seperate ways. As soon as we started talking to each other again I knew that those feelings were still there and he made it very obvious to me that he felt the same way. It was like we picked up from where we left off 12 years ago, except I now had two more very young children who were 3 yrs and 7 weeks old. My oldest daughter Kayla was born when I was 18 and she was bout 2 years old when Lane and I had dated in college. We were married in November of 2003. Unfortunately we knew that we would never be able to have any children together, but we accepted it and Lane was a wonderful father to my girls. After awhile we started talking about what if there was a way that we could get pregnant. It seemed too far fetched that we never really dared get our hopes up. I checked around with a few bigger hospitals in our state and the prices were outragous and the success rates were dismal at best. Of course insurance would not cover it because it was an elective surgery. I started searching the web and came accross a few doctors that did this procedure and I started checking into them. I e-mailed Dr Levin on a Sunday afternoon and he called me that night. I could not believe it. He sounded so sincere and concerned and made me feel like we really had a chnace of doing this. I started getting my hopes up, but I knew I had to do more checking. I got on his web site and started talking to women in his support group and could not believe all of the women he had helped. I was also shocked at the price of the procedure. It was like half the price of the other places with a much higher chance of success. My husband and I talked it over and decided it was worth the risk and scheduled an appointment for Jan 6, 2005.
As the day of the procedure came closer and closer I was getting so excited and scared at the same time. We left Jan 5th and stayed at the motel next to the hospital and made our way over to the hospital the next day. Dr Levin was so kind and reassuring, I felt completely safe and confortable in his hands. When he was done with the procedure I had 6 inches of tube on one side and 4 inches on the other. He said my tubes looked good and open and the next day we flew back home. I am not going to say that the procedure was pain free. I think everyone deals with that sort of thing differently, but I was able to handle it and after 3 weeks we were able to start doing the baby dance. It was such a wonderful, beautiful feeling to know that I was a whole being again, and that I could possibly get pregnant again. Unfortunately I was not one that 3 months later I was pregnant. I was now 36 years old and after a year of trying I went in and had the dye test done to see if my tubes were open. When they did the X-Ray the Dr was so impressed with the tubal reversal. He said that unless you knew it was done you would have never known that I had had my tubes tied. Dr Levin did such a nice, clean and precise job. My tubes were nice and open so went back to doing the baby dance some more.
In April of 2006 we conceived our son and he was born Dec 26, 2006.
We can never explain how grateful we are to Dr. Levin for helping us bring this beautiful son to us. Dr Levin is not only a wonderful Dr. but an extrordinary human being who truly cares about all of his patients. We can never thank him enough.
