In 1998, Larry and I were married. I had two children from a previous marriage who were eight and six years old. In 2003, we started talking about having a child. I had a tubal ligation several years earlier. We talked to a few doctors in town about the possibility of having a reversal. There was only one doctor that would perform the surgery and he was expensive and not positive the surgery would be successful. We put the idea down for another two years. A friend of ours told us about Dr. Levin.
On a Sunday evening, we got on his website. We sent him an email with questions. I was hoping to hear from him sometime during the week, but to our amazement, he called us within ten minutes. He said he had just been checking his email. We were thrilled to talk to him. He was very encouraging. We ordered the paper work and the process began.
In November, 2005, I flew to Louisville, Kentucky and met Dr. Levin and his staff face to face. He was confident that he would be able to reverse the tubal and that I would be able to conceive a child again at forty-three. I was so impressed by everyone's support. The surgery went well and I returned home very excited.
We needed to wait a few weeks till trying, but as soon as we could, we started. As the months went by and I kept getting older, I got discouraged. My first and second pregnancies came very easily. I was now taking my temperature every day, using ovulation tests and sending the results to Dr. Levin.
After a year of trying, we decided to drive to Louisville and try artificial insemination. We made the long drive in January. We did everything right, but still I didn't get pregnant. We decided to make another trip in February 2007. I ended up ovulating two days before I expected to. We felt like we missed the mark so we didn't go. When I missed my period, I tested and we were excited to announce that I was pregnant!
The pregnancy went well. I ate healthy food and took every precaution to have a healthy baby. We delivered "Toni Mae" on November 7, 2007 by cesarean section. She was 8 pounds, 11 ounces. We are so grateful to Dr. Levin and his staff for making our dream come true. She is such a blessing.
